About Us
Since 1905, the Maslow family has been involved in the design, manufacturing, distribution and sale of fine home furnishings and antiques in Europe and the United State of America. The company began as a small factory in Italy, manufacturing furniture frames. As the company grew, the frames were exported to New York City, where they were sold to small furniture factories and decorator stores. Eventually, a showroom was opened in New York to showcase assembled furniture. During World War II, the factory in Italy was destroyed by allied bombing.
After the War, Louis Maslow began manufacturing custom furniture in Manhattan; he continued to import and assemble frames from Italy. In the late 1950s, his son, Richard, joined him, and began to focus on selling furniture to the rapidly growing interior design trades in the New York City region. By the early 1960s, Louis Maslow & Son was one of the original tenants of the New York Design & Decoration Building ( D & D Building ). Richard remained a tenant of the building for over 40 years, selling custom made furniture and antiques to the world’s leading architects, collectors and interior decorators. He has been closely involved in many industry supporting efforts, from the Kips Bay Show house, to events supporting the Design Industry Foundation Fighting Aids ( DIFFA ).
In 2003, Richard became involved in the antiques district in Stamford, Connecticut. He recognized that there was strong demand for antiques and quality home furnishings from customers and designers who were eager to minimize shopping trips into Manhattan. Beginning in 2008, he began to sell items on line, as an early dealer on 1stdibs.com. Since 2010, he has operated the G4 Decor LLC storefront on 1stdibs, and began operating a stand-alone website in 2014.
